Elesh Norn Commander Debate Sparks “Standard Horizons” Sets
The discourse over Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines' Commander legality has pushed Wizards to release new "Standard Horizons" sets.
Cards To Be Printed Directly Into Standard
Just three days after Twitter discourse erupted over the Commander Rules Committee attempting to block the printing of Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines in a Standard-set printing, Wizards of the Coast has announced the launch of Standard Horizons sets, which will contain cards designed for the Standard format.
“We, of course, applaud this decision,” said a member of the Commander Rules Committee on the auspice of anonymity. “Before this change, new sets (which happen to be legal in Standard) were warping the Commander format. Frankly, it’s about time Standard gets cards printed directly into the format.”
Going forward, The Commander Rules Committee will have the ability to move cards intended for new sets into Standard Horizon sets to preserve the integrity of the turn-zero format while still allowing Standard players to play with fun, pushed cards sometimes.
“If we notice something that could be problematic in Commander, we’ll move it into the subsequent Standard Horizons set,” continued the RC member. “If it turns out to be problematic in Standard, too, they can just Rule 0 it out of their playgroups.”
