Wizards Changes RCQ Format Selection

In future RCQ seasons, stores will now only have the option of running events either as the current Limited format or a singular pre-determined constructed format.

In a response to player feedback, Wizards of the Coast has announced a change in format selection for the RCQ system.

Going forward, in future RCQ seasons, stores will now only have the option of running events either as the current Limited format or a singular pre-determined constructed format. This change will replace the current system of allowing stores to run their events as limited or a constructed format of their choice between Standard, Modern and Pioneer.

While time will tell if this change is overall positive for the playerbase at large, this should help out those players in areas where RCQ format selection was being curtailed to formats outside of their interest or budgetary ranges.

More details on these changes to come on the WeeklyMTG live stream set to take place Tuesday February 7th.

Despite not being a stranger to the Top 8 tables of the old IQ and PTQ systems, most of his competitive experience comes from the other side of the event space, where he served more than five years as a level-two judge, only hanging up the black shirt for good at the beginning of 2022. Currently, you can find him making Pioneer content for Crew3 on your favorite podcasting platform or on Twitch/YouTube.
