Although Commander is usually a casual format played between friends, an official ban list is maintained by the Official Commander Rules Committee and recognized by Wizards of the Coast. The cards are therefore not allowed to be included in Commander decks without prior agreement.
- Currently, the ban list is updated quarterly, with announcements coming on the Monday after the prerelease.
- This list is maintained in addition to the Game Changers list, where other powerful cards are not yet banned, but defines which Commander Bracket it belongs to.
