Welcome to PlayingPioneer! This site was made in collaboration by friends at Crew3 Podcast, The First Pioneers Pioneers Podcast, The Pioneer Perspective Podcast, FNM players and brewers to serve as a place where Pioneer (and some Historic) content can be easily accessed, referenced and searched.

I’m rose-emoji and I will be your tour guide.

On the Home page, you’ll find a featured decklist from the previous MTGO tournament right at the top of the page. These will usually be off-meta decks, but will sometimes feature a meta deck if there’s some cool new tech in it or a noteworthy cut or addition. For each featured deck, you can pull up the decklist and read a primer about the deck, how to play it and see why we featured it. The home page is also where you’ll find quick links to information and articles about the format in general, deeper dives into archetypes, set spoilers we think will impact the format and, of course, brewing.

In the menu at the top of the page, you’ll see a “Decks” link. That’s where we keep a clickable list of the decks we think make up the Pioneer meta, which we keep updated as new tech is added or cards are removed from each deck enough times to consider a meta shift. That’s also where you’ll find off-meta league 5-0 decks (spice), which will live forever in glory, unmodified. Soon, we will be adding our own brews and brews submitted by our patreon members, so keep a look out for that.

Next to that, you’ll find a “Pioneer Content” link, which is a carefully curated list of our favorite Pioneer Discord channels, Twitch Streamers and Youtube content creators.

I’m so glad you found this site and I really hope it helps you in your Pioneer journey, wherever you are in it.

rose-emoji started playing Magic: The Gathering during Battle for Zendikar, then took a break from the game until Throne of Eldraine. Pioneer got him back into Magic full-force, and the launch of Arena on mobile hooked him in forever. Now that his favorite format is working its way onto Arena, he can be found grinding the format to death. Only ever Grixis colors, but sometimes he can have a little Jund as a treat.
